Although we have our own dedicated design unit lead by our own in-house designer, and work closely with an experienced product development consultant, we also never forget that ultimately the garments still have to be worn - and liked - by you. Just because we initially like the idea of a particular garment there still might be certain features that are not 'fit-for purpose'. As with the issue of cost we never forget this and so to avoid any loss of focus when developing garments we work closely with our Product Development Partners to ensure that the garments actually do work and where we do find faults - then we can address them promptly. We believe that it is only by exposing the products to the activity they have been designed for can we be sure they are going to perform.
We don't just utilise our Product Development Partners when initially designing a garment. Instead we continue to work with the clubs and athletes involved to assess our garments over a long period of time as there are things [albeit often minor] that come to light only after a period of time. Also as new hardware and software comes onto the market there is often the opportunity to improve a garment in a way that was simply not possible when it was initial conceived.
Our Product Development Partners change on a fairly regular basis - more often than not we work with one club on one particular garment [albeit the Boat Race clubs are both regulars on the list] - and we pick them based upon a variety of different factors including personal contacts, the mix of athletes and their attitude. If your club would like to be considered for a stint as a Product Development Partner - and be given an almost unique opportunity to influence the design of a particular garment - then please ask your Account Manager or email pd@spartan-clothing.co.uk.
